Coming Up...

SPRING BREAK is March 16-20! We will see your students back a school March 23, 2009!! Enjoy your time off!

***When we return from SB your students will kick their MATH and READING practice into overdrive! Math TAKS is April 28th and Reading TAKS is April 29th!! We're all looking forward to seeing the excellent job the students will do. They have worked so hard this year and have really learned a lot. I know we are all anxious to use those new skills that we've picked up.

Homework / Agendas

Your student writes their daily homework assignment in their agenda EVERYDAY! I verify that each student has written the correct homework assignment before he/she leaves class by initialing or putting a checkmark. You and your student agreed to the following creed at the beginning of the year. It states:

I am responsible for MY OWN homework. I will complete the homework assigned following the instructions MY TEACHER has given. It is important that I return the materials sent home to school because they are often used the following day in class. If I do not complete my homework as assigned, I understand it will affect my grade negatively.

It is so important that students complete their homework independently. This is not to say you cannot help your student or aide them in their assignment, but they still need to complete the assignment in their own handwriting, using what they learned in class that day. Additionally, students should be reading EVERY night for 15-20 minutes and recording their time spent reading in their Reading Log which is kept in the back of their agenda. It is also part of your student's homework to get their parents initials or signature each day in their agenda. If there are any problems with you child's behavior at school I will be sure to let you know by writing a short note in their agenda next to their homework assignment.

      Other Important Info...

** Please be sure if your student is involved in the Extended After School Program/OEY you have marked the following dates on your calendar: March 5th, 10th, 31st; April 2nd, 14th, 16th, 21st, 23rd. They will ride the bus home or need to be picked up at 5:30 on those days after their session is over.

If your child was selected to participate in this program, I encourage you to please make sure they attend EVERY session. It is imporant for your child to recieve the best education they can get and this program is helpful to make sure that they have all the knowledge/tools they could possibly need to be prepared to move on to 5th grade!

Have you heard about our stars??? Ask your student how they are working daily to earn STARS to put on their boots that are located just outside our classroom!!
