Welcome to the Sherwood Elementary Library!

The Lucy Clampitt Library

"Words. Wisdom. Wonder. All free @your school library!"

The current Sherwood Elementary Library was opened in 2004 in honor of long-time Sherwood librarian Lucy Clampitt.

We have print, audio-visual, and electronic materials for all of our students, pre-kindergarten through 5th grade, and while we have some Spanish materials, we are working on building our collection for our bilingual friends.

In our Everyone section, we have a special presentation area for the primary grades, where pre-k through 2nd graders can listen to a story, view video clips, watch slide shows, or participate in interactive online activities in an age-appropriate, inviting atmosphere.  The intermediate grades enjoy the same activities in the main presentation area, in a larger section of the library.

In addition to browsing and checking out books, students visit the library for research, study, special events, and playing board games in the afternoon as a part of our after-school program, ASAP.

We view the library as the hub of our learning community and like to see many people come in and out of the library everyday for a multitude of various purposes.

Parents, mentors, and volunteers:  Stop by and visit us any time!  You can even check out books while you are here!

Hours:
Monday - Friday   7:25-3:15

 Reading Programs/Events

SHARP
Sherwood's Happy Accelerated Reader Pros is our Accelerated Reader program.  AR is a voluntary, incentive-based reading program intended to encourage students to read.

W5 Book Club
Offered by the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the W5 Book Club (who, what, when, where, why) is a voluntary program in which students read one book a month from book lists chosen by the museum.  Books for each month relate to either a special or permanent exhibit at the museum.   Students who participate and complete the program will be invited to a special party in August of 2008 and receive a special prize available only from HMNS.  Register online at http://bookclub.hmns.org.

Texas Bluebonnet Books
Each year, a committee of librarians from the Texas Library Association chooses twenty recently published books as their favorites and nominees for the Texas Bluebonnet Award.  In January, students who have read at least five of the books may vote for their favorite book.  The author of the book receiving the most votes is the winner of the Texas Bluebonnet Award for that year.  Remember, read five Bluebonnet nominee books for your invitation to our Bluebonnet Voting Party in January.
