Mrs. Spencer has been the principal of Sherwood Elementary since 2009. This year marks Ms. Spencer’s 22nd year as a public school educator and her 18th as an administrator. A graduate of Texas A&M University, where she received her Bachelor’s of Science and her Master’s in Educational Administration, Ms. Spencer was involved at A&M through her participation in the swimming team and Traditions’ Council.
In 2000, Ms. Spencer was honored to serve at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C. as an intern for Terry Dozier, a former National Teacher of the Year, who had been selected to advise the Secretary of Education, Richard Riley, under President Bill Clinton. She worked on researching what support States offer teachers in terms of training, certification, retention and preparation and reporting her findings to Ms. Dozier and Secretary Riley. Upon her return to Texas, she completed her teaching career and assumed an assistant principal position in Pearland ISD. Moving closer to home, she worked in Alief ISD for 5 years in that same role and later attained a position as a principal in Goose Creek CISD in Baytown. Recognizing she wanted to dedicate her time to working with students in the Houston area, she applied for and earned a position in Spring Branch at SWE. She loves working with staff, students and families to provide strong foundational instruction for students to flourish and grow. Additionally, her experience working with diverse populations and students from around the world has cemented her belief in the value of a bicultural, bilingual, and biliterate society.
