For Paul Wallace, some of the most important moments in a school day happen between classes.
A smile in the hallway. A quick fist bump. A simple "good morning." Those everyday interactions are what Wallace says make being a principal so rewarding, and they're the relationships he looks forward to building as the new principal of Sherwood Elementary School (SWE).
"My door is always open," Wallace said. "Whether it's a student, staff member or parent, I want people to know they can come in, have a conversation and work together to solve problems."
Wallace brings 19 years of experience in education to SWE, including roles as a teacher, coach, assistant principal and campus leader.
After beginning his career in secondary education, he discovered a passion for elementary schools, serving as an assistant principal before joining SBISD three years ago at Rummel Creek Elementary (RCE). Now, he is excited to build on Sherwood's strong legacy while becoming part of a community known for its close-knit, family atmosphere.
Wallace believes great schools are built through engagement and community. His goal this year is to continue Sherwood's tradition of excellence while creating an environment where every student feels safe, every family feels connected and every staff member feels supported.
"I am excited to join the SWE community because I hear it has a rich history of being a family, and I am excited to be part of that family," Wallace said.
Outside of school, Wallace enjoys traveling and seeking new adventures with his wife, Haley. A lifelong sports fan, he's also quick to cheer on his hometown teams—as long as they have "Houston" across the front of the jersey.
For Wallace, leadership is relational. He believes the strongest schools are built one conversation, one connection and one student at a time.
