Opening in January 2027, the new campus represents a lasting investment in the Sherwood community, made possible through Spring Branch ISD’s voter-approved 2017 Bond Program.
For students and staff currently learning at the district’s South Transition Campus, the opening will be a homecoming. For the neighborhood, it will mark the return of a familiar gathering place in a new setting, ready to welcome generations of learners.
Built for the next generation Sherwood’s original campus opened in 1968. Its replacement carries that history forward with a new building designed to accommodate 750 students.
Parents, staff and community members helped shape the campus design through a project advisory team, bringing the school community’s perspective into the planning process.
The new facility will open doors to everyday experiences that make a school matter: children discovering a favorite book, teachers helping a lesson click, families celebrating student accomplishments and neighbors coming together to support their school.
Sherwood is also home to a Two-Way Dual Language program, where English- and Spanish-speaking students learn together in both languages. The new campus will provide a new home for that learning and for the relationships that connect Sherwood’s students, families and staff.
A voter-approved investments
The new Sherwood is part of a broader community investment in SBISD schools and facilities through three voter-approved bond programs:
2017 Bond Program: Funded the replacement of Sherwood and other aging elementary campuses. Terrace and Thornwood are the remaining elementary campuses scheduled to be rebuilt. Terrace celebrated its groundbreaking in December 2025.
2022 Bond Program: Funded the new Harold D. Guthrie Center for Excellence, where students explore careers and build practical skills using tools, technology and learning spaces designed for their programs.
2025 Bond Program: Provides $558.6 million for athletics improvements at the district’s four comprehensive high schools, renovations and additions at Darrell Tully Stadium and Don Coleman Coliseum, and the relocation and rebuilding of W.W. Emmons Natatorium.
Each program addresses long-term facility needs and helps provide places where students can learn, develop their talents and prepare for their futures.
Bond dollars are dedicated to approved bond projects. These funds are kept separate from the budget that pays for daily school operations and cannot be used for employee salaries or other operating expenses.
